Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to Cabaret! It’s 1931 Berlin. Inside the Kit Kat Klub, you’ll find British nightclub singer Sally Bowles as she keeps the delirious party raging. However, no amount of booze, music, and dancing can slow the ominous march of a changing Germany as it draws ever closer. This musical revival features an iconic score from Kander and Ebb, including “Maybe This Time,” “Mein Herr,” “Don’t Tell Mama,” and, of course, the title song. This Tony Award–winning musical is reimagined in a visionary new staging by Globe favorite Josh Rhodes (Guys and Dolls, Bright Star).
As told by critics, London’s hottest ticket is finally arriving on Broadway this Spring. The seven-time Oliver award winning musical will play at the August Wilson Theatre beginning on the 1st of April. Making it even more exciting is Academy and Tony Award winner Eddie Redmayne will reprise his Olivier Award-winning performance as the Emcee. Cabaret features an award-winning score by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Joe Masteroff – based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood.
Cabaret first opened on the West End in 1968. At the time, it ran for 336 performances. It was brought to Broadway in 1966 and ran for 1,156 performances until closing in 1069. Since them, Cabaret has been revived on Broadway three times: in 1987, again in 1998 with a reimagining of the show, and restaged in 2014. It’s been a long 10 years since its last revival, and people are eager to see what awaits them this time.

In an interview, Cabaret actor Richard Katz shared his thoughts as to why people should see cabaret. He said, “Both on and off stage you’re going to see a bunch of people at the top of their game in a show that is full of danger and full of funny and silly things. It’s silly hats and funny voices… like all theatre. But sometimes, theatre is a doorway to a place of wonder. I think that – and felt this through seeing the show before being in it – it’s a thing that is full of wonder.”
If you’re not completely sold, you must know that BroadwayWorld also called this production, “Hands down the most cohesive, well-rounded, fully conceptualized staging of this musical that I have seen to date. My friends, this is how you do Cabaret.”
